Children locked away: Britain's modern bedlam
The Slow Newscast
00:00
Becky's Story Isn't Just About the Horrors of Her Situation
There is nowhere for Becky to go - not a single bed on offer in any registered, regulated care home across England or Wales. She was walking down motorways in the middle of the night on her own to come home. There are scores of others just like her: desperate children with learning disabilities and undiagnosed autism. They come to police and social services when they're distressed, emotionally dysregulated, and ultimately often suicidal. These are children who can't go home but who need keeping safe and who need a chance to heal. Louise Tickle wants to know where are our most vulnerable, damaged and traumatised children being held? And why are they being harmed, not helped?
