Zilda lived on for a few more years and apparently, it was pretty quiet. In late 1947, she returned to Highland Hospital which is in Asheville, North Carolina. Nine women had been locked inside and died, including Zilda. She was identified by a slipper that was under her body. Her granddaughter Eleanor Lanham wrote quote: "They symbolized zestful youth"
