Silicon Wafers Are Round
The in get of silicon is created as a cylinder as the solid silicon Trist crystal is grown and pulled out of molten silicon which leads to round wafers. Many of the processing steps in the fab to produce the chips on the wafer based on circular polishing motions and spinning away for Around its center which also requires angular symmetry and just wouldn't work well or as efficiently with a non circular wafer.
