There is deep alarm about illegal fishing and over fishing by chinese and european super trawlers on the west african coast, particularly off gana, senegal and guinea. The concern here is focused on mining activity that occurs in conflict prone areas. Chinese private sector firms have been in the public spotlight for the physical abuse and bigoted treatment of africans. Yet despite the challenges, it is clear that the chinese private sector has managed to make significant inroads in africa.
