The Russian Invasion of Georgia and Georgia

In 2008 we essentially expressed or announced our intention of incorporating Georgia and the Ukraine in NATO. That was opposed by both France and Germany on the grounds that Russia would have seen it as an act of war. Four months later Russia entered into Georgia now that's often perceived as an unprovoked invasion but not only was Russia responding to the threat of native expansion into Georgia.
