The Tontine Agreement: A Brief History
The first official stock market was actually a coffee house called the Tontine Coffee House, and it was built between 1792 and 94. It was always built for business, but there was some pleasure there as well. You can get a cup of coffee and you can do your transaction there. And we know that the coffee beans were fresh, too. Like right off the boat.
