Is There a Jewish Doctrine of Original Sin?
The question of what we call original sin comes into western theology with augustine's reading of romans chapter five, verses 12 and in. He was trying to find a way of explaining the origin of sin by this one act which then creates a sinful species. But i think that the biblical accounts is much more subtle than that. We ultimately have to start with what god has revealed in jesus. And part of what is revealed is that sin was that bad, and and death was that terrible, and that this is what it required to put it right. This doesn't give us an exact theory for how original sin actually works. One more question from timothy in worcester.
