Fortnite: A Crime, Punishment, and Video Games

Epic Games, that's the company behind Fortnite, had to pay a rather epic find of the Federal Trade Commission recently. Epic will pay $275 million for allegedly violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act or COPPA. The game is free to play but like many video games, users can make in-game purchases using real money. In 2021, Activision Blizzard agreed to pay $18 million to settle a civil rights complaint.
