The First Spanish Expedition to the Americas
christopher columbus was the first spaniard to hit mainland south america. He ran into the continent near the mouth of the orinoco river in what becomes northeast venezuela. By this point, the spanish crown was unhappy with both columbus and the capitulations of santa fe. And so without columbus's knowledge, bishop vonseca launched further expeditions led by men who had taken part in columbus' first two voyages.
