Book Burnings - A History of the Holy Roman Empire
Book burnings were one of the first ways that church officials pushed back against the power of the printing press. When luther refused to renounce his religious views, charles banned those views within the empire. Luther had already been excommunicated by the pope, so he was now a marked man. But local ruler in saxony protected luther and saved him from being burned as a heretic.
