The Russian Accent in Hunt for Red October

If you watch an American blockbuster film set in Germany or Russia, they're all speaking perfect English. The movie that did that the best was Hunt for Red October. It all starts the all-speak Russian, like even Sean Connery. And there's one moment where the camera just zooms in on Sean Connery's mouth. He's speaking Russian and then he starts speaking English. That must sound like shit to a Russian person. But here's my question as well. If they Speak in Russian at the beginning? I'm not sure if it works.
