The Importance of Nuclear Weapons in the Cold War

I think nuclear power certainly has some very important applications, some of which are incredibly beneficial to humanity. On the weaponry side, I think it just caused enormous amounts of harm beyond the obvious of the people who lost their lives as a result of the bombs being dropped. There are stories of people who may have developed cancer just from working on the projects. Whether or not that's actually the cause, it's impossible to say because there are just too many vectors to take into account.
