Is There a Necessity in Nationalism?

The idea of like perhaps there's just smaller groups or no groups that is a very kind of weird almost sounding like science fictiony kind of or maybe even like mad max sort of depiction of of the future. I don't think it necessarily refutes this idea maybe it explains some of the problems we're having in like larger countries where they're becoming very divisive and these shared images and shared fictions are no longer doing that kind of social cohesion and social identification.
