The Moral Importance of Stopping Boats
I stress that the vast majority of these people, regardless of their culture, are going to turn into wonderful citizens. I think it is important to ensure that we do not heavily tax the ability of communities to absorb and to adjust. The other important moral consideration is people smuggling is deadly. There was just under a thousand boats in total that we know about, but made it. And we think that at least a thousand people died at sea. So I think there is a moral imperative, as well as a very important national sovereignty imperative in stopping boats.
