Uber CEO Travis Kalanick was criticized for his company's culture, but the investors didn't really give a single fuck about it. Venture capitalists poured billions of dollars into companies that could only have high valuation in narrow window of time before public realized how unprofitable they would always be. "It really is the old Charles Dickens Victorian era gangs of pickpockets and stuff," he says.
