Pilot Tom lanfear and his c o, jor john mitchell were sent on a mission to kill an admiral in Japan. The plan was that they would intercept yama moto's plane as he landed at pearl harbor then sink the ship after it had docked. But Mitch didn't understand all of the nautical terms being used during the briefing. He became increasingly annoyed with the brass for not letting him make up his own mind about what needed to be done. At 435 miles round trip, this is one of the longest interception missions ever attempted by any army pilot.
