Aircraft Carriers in the Indian Ocean

There's no reason to build a gigantic mobile airfield just to project power within a space that can be reached by land-based air. The Indian Ocean is incredibly important economically to China, not just for energy, but for all kinds of other goods which are being exported out of or imported into major Chinese ports. And so the ability to have a presence in the Indian Ocean, I think it's one of the things that justifies China's approach to big carrier battle groups.
