The Failure of Reasoning About Mental Illnesses

The status of mental illness has been colonized by a lot of people who do not suffer particularly much from their mental illness. People say that I don't respect the struggles of ADHD or anxiety or depression. That's not true. I understand them to be conditions that can at times be debilitating and should be able to receive treatment for. But we don't have to pretend they're the same kinds of people as the severely chronically schizophrenic, right? And so no one is ever considered deeply mentally ill if they are not deeply unwoke.
