Introduction

Blood clotting is like a biological plumber, fixing our leaking blood vessels. If you cut yourself, it's the clot that stops you bleeding to death. But clotting a finely tuned process that can go wrong. Thromboses, clots inside our bodies arteries and veins, can be deadly. Those that form in the arteries around the heart or in the brain can block the supply of oxygen there. Clots in the veins get less attention, but they can still be deadly when bits break off and e elsewhere in the body.
