Barry had caught a backing track for the monkeys using those same musicians, including diamond, on a coustic guitar. Nesmith was getting increasingly dissatisfied with the way his songs and his productions were being side lined. The group suggested that nesmith be given lead vocal, and kirshe and barby agreed.
