In the 19 seventies, it has been claimed that journalism schools became overcrowded with students aspiring to be the next woodward and bernstein. There is no evidence to support such claims. Enrolments in journalsm programmes did not surge because f woodward bernstein, watergate and all the president's men. Data compiled and reported in the 19 eighties found that the boom in journalism in rolments was well under way five years before the water gate break in, in 19 72.
