The Amygdala and Fear
The amygdala is highly interconnected with the prefrontal cortex and also other structures such as the hippocampus. It appears to process information relating to the emotional responses or particularly the fear response to external stimuli. People who have bilateral lesions to the amygdala do not remove that response. So they still exhibit fear.
