What Are Phrasel Verbs?

english allows you a choice of what to do with a preposition when the noun phrase that would normally follow it is missing. In theory, there could be seven kinds of verbs that take one or two or all three of these kinds of items. A phrasel verb creates meaning as a unit even if the main verb is separated from its particle. For example, in the sentence, the student took the idea in, even though took and in aren't next to each other, the verb is took in, meaning absorbed.
