Self-Driving Cars and Public Transport

Self-driving cars and their improvement within cities is an interesting topic. Do you think it's the best way to improve transport within a cityscape or is there an argument that improvements in public transport are a better route to go down? The one thing I would really caution against is saying that self-driving cars will do this for cities, right? Other one good thing or one bad thing. It could be made to be really good for cities. But if it's allowed to develop thoughtlessly then it could be really bad for cities.
