Mononk - Playtime
I think Mononk is a more enjoyable film. Playtime does go on a bit. I very much admire a Tourish brevura of doing this one hour en-sombe restaurant scene where nothing really happens except lots of various little absurd things. It's drawing on all of these things from high modernism, but which are then being pitted against kind of modernism after the avant-garde. Modernism as an actually achieved thing. It's modernism when the age of heroes is passed. This is a predicament we think about quite a lot in terms of post-war architecture - that modernism sort of happened in the 20s, and then after the war
