NASA engineer Kirk Sorensen discovered the molten salt reactor project's research papers. He would eventually leave NASA to become an outspoken proponent of thorium-fueled nuclear power. The U.S. Department of Energy has finally declared in official communication that so-called new technology should be kept under close watch.
