By the middle of the 16th century, people are not only reading drongs for stylistic inspiration, they're also starting to work a little bit of drongs into their interpretations of the Confucian texts. So it starts out as a question of style, but then it ends up as an ideological question as well. As you when you were describing the eight-legged essays, we very often think of them as being parallel. You talk about parallelism not as an a priori nor as a settled conclusion, but as something that has a history and comes from somewhere and has a context.
