Indian philosophers self consciously set out to innovate, to think, with the ancient systems but no longer defer to them. An astonishingly vast number of works in sanscrit exist from this enormously rich period to day,. lying unedited and sometimes in only a single copy, in manuscript libraries around the world. We could now return to the question of what it means to speak of philosophy in india.
