The Importance of Formalizing Disagreements

I worry that a project like this, what it gets people to do is formalize arguments in ways it creates the perception that if we could just all agree on some basic premises, we could really have a productive solution and conversation. I mean, I do think that it's often quite useful to just do this thought experiment of this reason that I gave for holding my position. If this reason turned out to be false, would it change my mind about the higher level thing? And often to people surprise the answer is no. But that would be a useful disagreement to have.
