The Stewards of the North, the Sters of Horses
Faramir tells how the stewards recruited and formed alliances. He says they made a truce with the proud peoples of the north, who often had assailed us. They ceded to them the fields of calanarton that are since called rohan. And they became our allies,. aiding us at need and guarding our northern marches. So this was 14 years back from the twelfth to 20th steward. That's just a few days for men as well as elves... According to faramir, it's more than 500 years ago.
