The Importance of Recognizing Our Segregated Schools
I think that it is critically important for families to recognize that our K through 12 educational system is not only deeply inequitable, but also harming different families in different ways. On average predominantly white school districts receive more funding than predominantly black and brown school districts. Studies consistently show that white students who go to diverse schools are less likely to express racist ideas or be taught anti-racist ideas. By segregating our schools even white students are being deprived of some of the skills that are necessary for them to thrive you know in society.
