Vivaldi was essentially a completely forgotten composer until the early 20th century. Fritz Kreisler, the legendary violinist, wrote a concerto in C and pretended that it was written by Vivaldi. A group of mostly Italian musicians started to revive even more interest. The Four Seasons became Vivaldi's signature work.
