I feel like it's clear to me that what you really were was a poet. Did you think of yourself as a poet at the time or as having a poetic sensibility? Yes, I thought of myself as a poet. Even then there was something wrong in that word, so I tried to shy away from uttering the word. But yes, I did. My view of myself and my vantage point was a vantage point of a poet,. Of course, but I was absolutely sure that that would be something that he would, for the rest of his life, be practicing privately.
