The Politics of Impeachment
The challenge isn't so much whether the case will work or not but the potential political blowback that comes from embarking on that case. Richard Nixon broke the Constitution and other laws in some significant ways he was held accountable. But when you get to say Ronald Reagan and Iran Contra clearly guilty probably should have been impeached we didn't have the heart to impeach him, says Julian Zelizer. If you go down that path and you refuse to hold these people accountable under republican theory it should not surprise you when the republic goes away.
