The Orphanage, ["Always Drift to the End!"
Six-year-old Carl Heinz is the son of an American soldier and a German woman. The carpenter calls him "Joe Lewis" ["The former heavyweight champion of the world, Joe Lewis."] A nun says she doesn't know who his parents were but that they must have been very good people because you are so good. He asks her: What is an American? She tells him it's a person from another country near here or far away across a great deal of water. His name was chosen arbitrarily by the nuns; he now goes to school with them.
