James Allard was a young Microsoft hire fresh out of college. He contributed heavily to the development of the Windows sockets or WinSock API. In early 1993, Allard started an in-house discussion group on the Internet called In-et Disc. When the World Wide Web came along, Allard's belief in the Internet as the future of computing redoubled.
