Why People Do Target GDP

When income goes up, just about everything else goes up in society. When g d p goes up, when medium incomes go up, people have more free time. They're healthier, they're wealthier. Their children don't die as much. Just gender equality is generally better in richer countries than poor countries. Political freedoms are normally better. All of these things are correlated with increasing g d p. So you can understand why it's much easier for a government to just say, let's increase gd p. Lets just make ourselves a richer society instead of trying to target the 25 other things that people want us to care about.
