The Importance of Being Gene Isabel Smith
I was named Gene Isabel Smith and I was called Jeannie up until I went away to college. Then I decided that was too much like a little girl name, which I think I would have outgrown that bias. When I joined unions, I couldn't be initial Smith because there were just too many people I'd be confused with. And then I made this indie movie when I was in college and it went to the New York Film Festival. It was getting ready to move to New York. So I said to the, you know, it was a film that was printed. They could change the credits for us.
