Technology is bringing these experiences to scale, and that's a really big deal. Sound very easily drives us into altered states, which is why sound has played so heavily in so many kind of spiritual traditions. While powder skiing, back in the nineties, you had to be an expert skir because the equipment demanded it. Now we have huge, fat skis that basically let anybody who can two turns together experience that mystical floating sensation. And this is showing up kind of everywhere you look in technology.
