The body has a built in mechanism that, from the body's perspective, it prefers to maintain sort of a calory balance. If you undeeat wor even if you exercise and burn cowories, you create a calory deficit. When the body's faced with a cowry deficit, it basically wants you to balance that deficit. It it is going to a basically shift its metabolic rate and stimulate your hunger to replace those calories that were indeficit.
