The Evolution of Bird Hybridization

One in ten species of birds are known to hybridize at least once. And i think you could probably say the same about all the other major vertebrate groups. It's not just a matter of hybridising and then producing sterile hybrids. Many of these hybrids formed back cross to one parental generation or another. So they the two species that hybridize exchange gens, genes introgress and er. The evolutionary si cance of that gen exchange the moment is not well known, but i's a very exciting problem area for people to address in the future.
