Moral Codes of Authority Are Not Relatives
When you feel the moral upsurge that comes with belonging and and virtue, well there is a moral danger with that. More likely you are to think other people are somehow inferior, in adequate and second rate. When you obey moral codes of authority, which is broadly a good thing to do, you need to be aware that those laying down those rules have also got their own interests. So catholic priests might be doing other things rather than telling you what to do. Every person in this room sometimes looks at rules and thinks, well, is that a rule that i should be obeyed because it's grounded in something, or is it just a rule which is being imposed on me?
