One of freud's most famous cases was a young woman, and she had a kind of paralysis in her hand that was called a glove paralysis. She couldn't move and didn't respond to painful stimuli like being poked with a needle. It eventually became clear that while she was living with her abusive, tyrannical father, taking care of him in a very deferential way, situated in the social structures of the time, she wanted to slap him.
