The Women of the Chippo Movement

Dr Vandana Shiva was a member of the Chippko movement in India. The women stood up to loggers and stopped them from cutting down trees. In 1980, Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi passed a ban on commercial felling in the region. But new threats could wipe the birthplace of Chippko off the map.
