Many of the problems that gays had in the 70s, 80s and 90s have now largely gone away because they don't have to be in the closet. Jung famously said that the goal of therapy is to convert unnecessary neurotic suffering into ordinary everyday unhappiness. But it seems like what gays have accomplished is that now they get to be as miserable as everybody else for the same reasons instead of being miserable for special rights.
