A professional is a person engaged in a specified activity as one's main paid occupation, rather than a pastime. The online definition really lends to someone who's fully employed in a profession and makes all of their money with this occupation. And I would go a step further and say someone who is highly sought out and makes a lot of money in this profession or in that occupation.
