Ida Red was a big hit for Bob Wills, the western swing fiddle player. Berry would perform that song live, but messed around and changed the lyricsA lot. He eventually changed the title to Ida May after Leonard Chass thought it sounded great. They tried several names, and eventually hit on Maybelline.
