In 2015, the drain was 10.1 billion tons of raw materials and 182 million person years of labor. That was 50% of all goods and 28% of all labor used by high income countries that year. What would we be without half of the goods and a third of the labor? The system is designed in a way where there's no incentive for reform.
Alex Gladstein is the Chief Strategy Officer at the Human Rights Foundation. He joins me for a deep dive into his upcoming book “Hidden Repression”. We discuss how the IMF and World Bank repress poor countries and funnel their resources to rich ones, and more.
