The Origin Story of the Chip Industry
The US originates this industry. There's talent, all of those Cold War drivers. But after the 70s, there's a huge consumer market here. Why did the industry shift away from just the US centricness of it? Labor costs, is it as simple as that? It's partly labor cost story. And there was offshoring from really the earliest days of the chip industry. In 1962, one of the two companies that invented the first chips opened its first facility in Hong Kong.
