CHAPTER

The Quantum Cryptosystem

In Bennett and Rassard's quantum cryptosystem messages are encoded in the states of individual photons emitted by a laser. It became the first machine ever to perform non-trivial computations that no Turing machine could perform. The system security is based not on intractability, either classical or quantum, but directly on the properties of quantum interference. That is what gives it its classically unobtainable absolute security.
